Android L 5.0 Lollipop for Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10; Google Confirms Update

Last Wednesday, Google unveiled its highly-anticipated mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, together with the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9. Both these devices will run on this latest OS, however, fans were left without an answer, in regards to an actual launch date.

The Mountain View-based tech titan has announced that it will make Android 5.0 Lollipop update available in the upcoming weeks, but did not confirm the precise release date. Nevertheless, it is likely that the update will be rolled out for the sophisticated and expensive smartphones simultaneously with the release of the Motorola Nexus 6 and the HTC Nexus 9 sometime in November.

Certain Google devices have already been confirmed for the Android L update such as Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10. However, techies were left wondering about the Nexus 4, and whether or not it would be receiving the operating system.

Google has been known to stop software support for devices that are already 18 months old, which may deprive the Nexus 4 users from getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Nevertheless, Google has confirmed that the Nexus will also get the latest software.

Android Engineering Program Manager Sascha Prüter wrote on Google+, "I know there is a meme for this somewhere but... be assured the missing "Nexus 4" in the Lollipop update notice is just a mistake, we are fixing it now :) Now please put down your pitchforks again and let's have some candy!"

In addition to the Nexus devices, Android 5.0 Lollipop will also be made available to many editions of Google Play devices. Android devices that will be getting the new software include are Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto E, Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, HTC One, HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, LG G, OnePlus One, as well as Sony devices that were released this past year.
