Android KitKat 4.4.4 and 4.4.2 Update on Sony Xperia Phones - Pros and Cons

Finally, the Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 updates are rolling out on Sony's Xperia devices, but users might want to choose wisely, as the updates carry certain advantages and disadvantages with them. Also, it is important to note that not all Xperia devices can upgrade to the 4.4.4 and certain issues still linger in the 4.4.2 update.

For the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, the ability to transfer apps onto the SD card can now be enabled with the Android 4.4.2 update. The feature was disabled by default before the update.

For a majority of Xperia devices, the Kitkat update brought about changes in the user interface which would differentiate itself from the Android Jellybean look. Changes on the status and navigation bars, quick settings, live wallpapers, and customizable notifications can be seen in the update.

The STAMINA mode on Xperia devices also received an upgrade where an option to sync apps in intervals is now included. Exclusive Sony apps also get an update such as messaging, email, as well as the Walkman.

Even more Xperia themes are included in the update, which will delight users who are into using custom themes on their phones. Also, SmartWear compatibility has also been included, which makes most Xperia devices able to sync with certain smart watches like the SmartBand SWR10.

Unfortunately for a small number of Xperia users, the Android Kitkat 4.4.4 is not available on all devices. Only the Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, and Z1 compact can switch to the 4.4.4 update. The others are only currently limited to the 4.4.2 version.

There are still some present issues with the 4.4.2 update like the phone's fast battery drain or overheating issues. Lag and slow performance issues are also present, and while some phones are restricted to the 4.4.2, only quick fixes are offered until an available upgrade to the 4.4.4 is ready.
