Android 5.0 Lollipop Update on HTC One M8 Release Date Rumors: Device to Recieve New OS in January 2015
HTC device users are still awaiting Google's latest operating system, but rumor has it that the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS is set to arrive on HTC One M8 units come early January.
Back in November when Google first unleashed the Android 5.0 Lollipop, HTC stated that the update will be available on their smartphones after a period of 90 days, a window which is slowly closing in. However, reports have appeared that the update will be coming to the HTC One M8 sooner rather than later.
Google has already started rolling out Android 5.0. to Nexus tablets and smartphones, as well as the HTC One and HTC One M8 Google Play Edition smartphones. For the regular edition HTC One M8 phones though, users can expect an update as early as Jan. 3 next year.
This makes HTC one of the earliest manufacturers in the United States to get the Android update to its smartphones as it attempts to beat out the 90-day window.
The confirmation reportedly came from HTC during a closed London event and alongside the HTC One M8, the update will also come to the HTC One M7 and HTC One
The HTC One M8 has a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080x1920 (441 ppi) and has both light and proximity sensors. It operates on the Android operating system, with a quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip, 2048 MB RAM and an internal memory of 32 GB that can be expanded up to 127 GB.
It has a front camera of 5 megapixels and a rear camera of 4 megapixels, and comes with back-illuminated sensors, smile detection, face detection, burst mode, geo tagging, panorama shot, digital image stabilization and more. It has a battery capacity of 2600 mAh and lasts up to 20 hours of use.
