Android 5.0 Lollipop Roll Out News: Mobile OS Running on 9 Percent of All Active Android Devices

The Android 5.0 Lollipop has been enjoying some recent success according to a report stating that the mobile OS is now running on 9 percent of active Android devices. This is also almost double the number that were running it just last month.

This increase is speculated to be attributed to the OS recently becoming available for more devices, and this trend is likely to increase.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop has been made available for a number of different devices that aren't just smartphones at this point.

"In announcing the initial availability of Android 5.0 Lollipop, the Android developer community described it as the 'largest and most ambitious release,' offering a slew of new features and thousands of APIs. The features are extensive and allow songs, apps and even search efforts on one Android device to be shared among others. There are more battery-saving features and a smart lock to secure the device with another trusted device, such as a car or a wearable device," writes Tech Times.

While most Samsung devices are getting treated to the OS right out of the box, there are still also a number of countries with varying devices that have yet to receive it.

"But while Samsung's newest smartphones may be getting most of the attention, its Galaxy S5 is still going strong, with all the top U.S. carriers releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the handset. The update is also taking place at a rapid rate abroad, as users in Ireland, Columbia, Italy, New Zealand and Croatia are just getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Big update activity is still expected in Australia, as Galaxy S5 users there haven't gotten access as of yet," writes Tech Times.
