Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date, Roll-Out News: List of Brands and Devices to Receive Latest Google OS Update Soon
The hype regarding the iPad notwithstanding, Apple's rival Google quietly announced its latest mobile operating system Android 5.0 Lollipop and also introduced the latest flagship Nexus 6. Like Apple, Google too has claimed that Android 5.0 will be its largest update so far.
Immediately after the announcement about the Android 5.0 Lollipop, several smartphone and phablet brands have declared their commitment to offer their respective firmware updates by end of 2014. Below is a list of the brands and devices that will be receiving their Android 5.0 Lollipop update very soon.
Nexus Smartphone/Tablet
If you own any of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 variants, rest assured that you will get the Android 5.0 update as soon as Google releases the firmware ready for consumer use. It is expected that these devices will get the update sometime in November.
Samsung
While the time frame for rolling out the Android 5.0 update to Galaxy devices is still uncertain, rumor has it that the first set of Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy S5, will get the update in December.
Beyond that, since Samsung has already begun associating with Android L with its Note 4, it is likely that the phablet may receive the update by the end of November
Sony
Like in the case of Samsung devices, it's still not certain when the Android 5.0 update will be rolled out on the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z2, Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1 as well as the original Xperia Z. However, it is likely that the Xperia Z3 line up will get the update by December, followed up by other Sony devices early in 2015.
HTC
Surprisingly, the Taiwanese tech firm HTC has already confirmed the availability of its software details. According to reports, both HTC One M7 and M8 will receive Android L updates, within 90 days from when Google releases the update.
Motorola
Apart from HTC, Motorola is the only other company to confirm that its devices will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop which could happen in November. It is believe that Motoroal is planning to roll out the latest Android update for all their Moto devices, including Moto E and G in a most sensible manner.
In addition, the global Droid variants of Motorola, including Ultra, Mini and Maxx will also be part of the Android 5.0 plan.
