Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz UFC 183 Fight Set For Octagon January 31, 2015

ESPN just announced that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, will be going head to head in a bout that's scheduled for January 31 of next year.

Dana White had announced the alleged superfight when he appeared on ESPN's SportsCenter. Shortly before White's announcement however, ESPN anchor Max Brestos had leaked the news on his Twitter feed.

"Dana White announcing on @SportsCenter Anderson Silva will be back in #UFC Octagon. He will face Nick Diaz January 31st. Boom," Brestos wrote in his tweet.

After White's announcement on ESPN, he himself confirmed the news in his own Twitter feed.

"Lunch with the GOAT @spideranderson and just got the Diaz fight done!!!! #ufc #superfight," White wrote in his tweet.

The fight between Silva and Diaz has been long awaited since 2012 when Silva's manager, Ed Soares held out on a title fight against Chris Weidman. Both Silva and Diaz are now returning to the scene and it looks like they are ready to fight each other in the octagon.

Silva had his middleweight title taken from him by Weidman when they fought against each other at UFC 162. The match ended with Silva getting knocked out by Weidman. An immediate rematch was requested, and at UFC 168 on July 2013, Silva and Weidman fought again. The fight ended with Silva's defeat with his shin breaking when he threw a leg kick that landed on Weidman's knee.

It is still unknown how Silva will fare against Diaz with an injury like a broken shin.

Diaz' more recent fight was during UFC 158 in March of 2013. He fought against Georges St-Pierre and lost via a unanimous decision. After the fight, he sort of retired from fighting, but was still very much under the UFC radar.

The fight scheduled for January will likely be UFC 183, right after the January 3, 2015 fight (UFC 182).
