Anderson Cooper Blinded By SunLight Bouncing Off Water in Portugal
Anderson Cooper is temporarily blind after his eyes were sunburned while covering a story in Portugal last week.
The "Anderson Live" host was in Portugal to film a story for 60 Minutes. He was on the water for several hours in the bright sunshine. The glare off the water made him go blind. "Temporarily blinded last week while on assignment. UV light bouncing off water. Much better now." He tweeted.
Apparently Cooper eyes were sunburned, causing him to go blind for 36 hours. The talk show host opened up about the incident on his show. He stressed the importance of eye protection against the sun.
He tells his audience, "I wake up in the middle of the night and it feels like my eyes are on fire, my eyeballs. And I think, 'Maybe I have sand in my eyes', I douse my eyes with water... Anyway, it turns out I have sunburned my eyeballs and I go blind. And I went blind for about 36 hours. I wanted to warn people about this. I didn't realize you could burn your eyeballs."
Cooper also invited Dr. Nancy Snyderman, NBC's medical editor, reinforced the importance of sunglasses and to give him a clean bill of health.
