'American Idol' Top 10 Episode Recap

It's American Idol Top 10 episode time. Tune in to watch performances by Angie Miller, Curtis Finch Jr., Devin Velez, Paul Jolley, Candace Glover, Kree Harrison, Janelle Arthur, Burnell Taylor, Devin Velez and Amber Holcombe.

As the show gets underway, Seacrest announces the judges. Lights cued, curtains drawn and...where's Nicki Minaj? American Idol is missing its diva.

After a couple jabs at the singer's tardiness from Seacrest and company the show goes on with opening act Curtis Finch Jr.

Not taking the advice of special guest coach and famed music producer Jimmy Iovine, Finch performed Fantasia Barrino's winning song, "I Believe". The gospel choir effect seemed routine for Finch, who wants to be a modern Luther Vandross. Like Iovine said in your meeting Finch, there's a difference between classic and retro.

On the far side of the spectrum Janelle Arthur chose a song from season 10 winner Scotty McCreery, "Gone". Again, seemed to fall flat. The judges unanimously agreed Janelle Arthur has the stage presence of a star, but never seems to pick the right song; at least according to Minaj made it to the panel by the beginning of Arthur's performance.

Devin Velez fit right in with the first two performances with his dull rendition of "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood. Not my original bet for first Carrie Underwood song, but that's just me. According to Keith Urban it was, "not one of your better performances." Randy Jackson again had qualms with song choice urging the singer to, "go for broke every single time on that stage."

And then, the darling favorite that everybody knows is going to win, Angela "Angie" Miller turned up the heat with a chilling performance of Celine Dion's "I Surrender" as performed by Kelly Clarkson in season 1. With this theme, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood seemed like obvious Idols to choose from. Coming off an electric performance of Colton Dixon's "Never Gone" last week, Angie Miller was up for the comparisons to Clarkson.
