American Idol: Burnell Taylor Likely To Be Eliminated
Though the ladies of American Idol 2013 didn't perform to the top of their abilities last night, a couple of them have legitimate excuses: Kree Harrison's pinched nerve and Candice Glover's broken toe. Burnell Taylor didn't have the same excuse; he was just downright boring. Though he looked the part with his studded black leather biker jacket, the performance was mediocre at best.
Being the first to perform on American Idol always proves tough for the young contestants, but that's the gig you signed up for Burnell. The unique, charismatic 19-year old singer chose Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" as his choice for rock night.
The New Orleans native tried desperately to show his "harder" side but fell flat on his face.
Burnell Taylor even attempted a mid-air scissor kick at the end of the song but didn't quite pull it off. In fact he was one misstep away from joining Kree Harrison and Candice Glover on the injured reserve.
'That last kick was almost like a dare, man,' Idol judge Keith Urban mocked.
"I'm going to assume rock n' roll is not your thing. I've never seen you look more uncomfortable in a song."
'You reminded me of a little Teddy Ruxpin bear today and I just wanted to cuddle you and eat you and squeeze you,' said Nicki Minaj, who never seems to focus on the performance.
Having a chance to redeem himself later in the show during a duet with Candice Glover, as usual the girl stole the spotlight.
"I've run out of words to describe your voice. It pierces through every single thing on this planet. It's like something with a lot of power that you look like with awe. It's pretty awesome."
At one point Keith Urban compared Burnell Taylor to a shining star and Candice Glover to an entire galaxy.
Tune in for tonight's American Idol Top 7 elimination show at 8/7c on FOX.
