American Idol has a penchant for picking colorful characters as judges. From the glory days of Simon Cowell and belligerent Paula Abdul, to now Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj with assorted varieties of hair color, Idol is not short on personality, when it comes to the panel.

Quirks aside, this year's judges have been spot on when separating the superstars from the wannabes.
