Amazon to Launch New "Prime Air" Service Using Drone Technology: How Would You Like a Drone to Drop Off Your Package 30 Minutes After Purchase?

Jeff Bezos went on 60 Minutes last night to announce his company's new development in online shopping. Bezos, the CEO and founder of Amazon.com, revealed that new drone technology was in the works that would enable consumers to receive their orders 30 minutes after purchase. The drone that was featured on 60 Minutes looked like "something out of the Jetsons" according to many viewers. The drone in question is an octocopter with eight propellers that lift it into the air. It is equipped with GPS and will take the package to the purchasers address once it has acquired a package.

Bezos talked about the new drones on 60 Minutes. He said, "The hardest challenge in making this happen is demonstrating to the standards of the FAA that this is the safe thing to do. This is years of additional work at this point. The most important things are the big pieces of stability - the rocks in the future - that you can count on. For example in Amazon's retail business, I know that people will want low prices 10 years from now. I know they will want fast delivery."

Here is a video that shows how Amazon Prime Air works and all that it can offer to consumers. Do you think that Amazon will feature this service as early as 2015? Do you think that the FAA will allow Amazon's drones to fly free in the sky? Let us know what you think in the comments!
