Amazon Fire Phone Release Date 2014, Price, Specs: High End Specs, Low End Expectations
The rumored Amazon smartphone was revealed barely a month ago with doubts that Amazon could not possibly match up to the standards in the market today, with Apple and Samsung leading the pack. There was some speculation that the phone was only to augment the Amazon experience, helping subscribers find what they want with ease and convenience.
Nevertheless, the phone is already released on the market, exclusively for AT&T. This could also only mean that the phone is available only in the United States. For people already subscribed to AT&T, the phone will be going for $200 for the 32GB version and $300 for the 64GB version.
Off contract, the phone goes for $650 and $750 for the 32GB and 64GB versions respectively.
Spec-wise, the Amazon phone is exactly what most people had expected. The screen is 4.7-inches with a 1280 x 720 resolution at 315ppi. The phone's front and back is reinforced with Gorilla Glass 3 while the buttons on the phone are made of aluminum.
The performance specs rest at the high end, by sporting a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor, Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. Amazon Fire runs on a custom built version of the Android 3.5.0.
What's special about the phone is that it features an integrated 3D interface. The interface is called a Dynamic Perspective to adjust the 3D image on the screen with the user's head position. The 3D feature is supposed to help users who shop online get a better look of a particular item they want to purchase.
The Fire will only be the first out of many of Amazon's planned smartphone series. They also wouldn't be surprised if the Fire turns out to be a flop.
"We have a long history of getting started and being patient," CEO Jeff Bezos said to The New York Times, "It's our job to keep inventing and to be patient. One thing leads to the next."
