Amanda Knox Trial Latest News Update: 'The Face of an Angel' Movie Premieres in London
After being acquitted of murder, the reconviction of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito in September has raised doubts on the Italian justice system, while BBC pushes through with plans of portraying the controversial case on the big screen.
Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were initially found guilty of the murder of Leeds University student Miranda Kercher, but after spending four years in jail, they were acquitted on Oct. 3, 2011.
Judge Claudio Hellman and the court claimed that the supposed evidence against the former couple was all ungrounded and on theoretical terms.
However, the former couple was summoned and tried in absentia on Sept. 30 in Florence, Italy and were reconvicted of the murder.
Also, Rudy Guede, the Ivory Coast national, had admitted to sexual assault, and is serving a 16-year sentence for Kercher's murder following the presence of his DNA mixed with Kercher's.
The other supposed pieces of evidence found in the crime scene, such as the blood stains found in the room, the kitchen knife and the bra clasp metal tested for DNA, were found to have traces of Knox's DNA. However, they could all be considered contaminated by virtue of Knox and Kercher being roommates.
The lack of substantial evidence throws the reconviction of Knox and Sollecito into question.
The trial is set to resume in Italy's highest court of appeals Mar. 25, 2015 to ascertain the sustainment of reconviction of both Knox and Sollecito.
On a side note, a film based on the Knox trial, entitled 'The Face of an Angel', premiered Oct. 18 at the Odeon cinema in London, starring Cara Delevingne, Daniel Bruhl and Kate Beckinsale.
Metro UKÂ stated that while Delevingne "proves she can act with a sweet and playful on-screen presence," the film was a "self-indulgent mess."
They stated that "the film aims for depth but barely skims the surface with its muddled approach and gets lost in its own hellish meta labyrinth."
