Amanda Bynes' DUI Case Dismissed as Star Pleads Guilty to Lesser Charge; Publicist Says Actress is Doing Better
Information regarding Amanda Bynes has been quiet since the young star checked into rehab, and now according to new reports she has won a small victory in a court case.
TMZ is reporting that Bynes is pleading guilty to a lesser offense in a DUI case she had been battling since April 2012.
Lawyer Rich Hutton said she took a plea of "wet reckless," which is not as serious of an offense as drunk driving. According to TMZ, Bynes will get three years of probation, three months of an alcohol ed course, and will have to pay an assortment of fines.
While the violation was taking place, Bynes reportedly refused an alcohol test, which has caused her to have her license suspended.
Bynes was hospitalized in August after months of erratic and strange behavior, coming to a head when she lit a fire in someone's driveway.
She was suffering from schizophrenia and was said to need up to a year in special care.
Around the time of her hospitalization, it was reported she was making daily strides in getting better.
"Despite some reports, Amanda is improving daily and responding well," Jonathan Jaxson, her publicist, told Entertainment Tonight in a statement when the story broke in the late summer. "There is still a long road ahead, and that doesn't mean being confined to a locked-down treatment center."
"Amanda is in the best hands presently, medically, and each day her condition is being monitored. There is not a set release date, but with the great track she is on presently, she will be out of a lockdown facility and continuing to recover elsewhere in the near future," Jaxson said.
He went on to say Bynes was fully cooperative with doctors as her parents are working to take control of her life.
