Alex Rodriguez's PEDs Were Allegedly Injected by Biogenesis Founder Tony Bosch, Claims A-Rod was 'Afraid of Needles'
Anthony Bosch, the founder of the Biogenesis clinic in Miami that allegedly provided performance enhancing drugs to Alex Rodriguez and 12 other MLB players, told CBS' 60 Minutes yesterday that he received $12,000 per month in cash to keep the Yankees slugger on performance enhancing drugs.
Bosch also claimed he injected drugs into A-Rod's body.
Rodriguez's original 211-game suspension, given by the MLB for his association to Biogenesis, was reduced to just missing the entire 2014 season (162 games) by a mediator on Saturday.
In the 60 Minutes interview, Bosch claimed that Rodriguez was fanatical with taking PEDs to aid him attempting to become the first Major-Leaguer to reach the 800 home runs milestone. He currently has 654 career homeruns.
Bosch claimed that he injected drugs into Rodriguez's body because he was "scared of needles."
"So at times, he would ask me to inject," said Bosch to 60 Minutes reporter Scott Pelley.
Bosch defined himself as cooperative and labeled A-Rod as enigmatic in the interview that aired on 60 Minutes on January 12.
"Try to use service elevators. Careful. Tons of eyes," Rodriguez wrote to Bosch via a text message in June 2012 in Atlanta. Bosch also stated in yesterday's interview that Rodriguez compensated him $12,000 per month for PEDs that he received from him.
"Alex cared. Alex wanted to know," said Bosch to 60 Minutes. "He would study the product. He would study the substances. He would study the dosages, because he wanted to achieve all his human performance or in this case, sports performance, objectives. And the most important one was the 800 home run club."
The MLB Players Association, delivered the following statement.
"It is unfortunate that Major League Baseball apparently lacks faith in the integrity and finality of the arbitrator's decision and our Joint Drug Agreement, such that it could not resist the temptation to publicly pile-on against Alex Rodriguez. It is equally troubling that the MLB appointed Panel Arbitrator will himself be appearing in the '60 Minutes' segment, and that Tony Bosch, MLB's principal witness, is appearing on the program with MLB's blessing," said MLBPA in the proclamation.
