Alec Baldwin News: '30 Rock' Actor will Star and Produce New HBO Series

In the early turn of the millennium, actor Alec Baldwin had mentioned he wanted to do a TV show of his own. Several years later he is getting that chance. After a bidding war, HBO won the chance to air Baldwin's political drama in a put pilot deal. A put pilot deal means that there will be a big penalty if the new show runs anything less than a full season.

In an interview with Deadline, Baldwin said that the show would be dramatic but not as dark as other political shows like "Scandal" or "House of Cards." Baldwin, who will produce as well star in the show, said that he will play Joe Byrne, a billionaire who knows just about everything and is thrust into New York City politics after a tragic occurrence with a former candidate for mayor.

He said, "He's Trump without the baggage, Bloomberg but a Democrat, George Soros if he was in real estate, a left-leaning Democrat who is also a businessman who understands the reality of how the city has to be run to create the right climate for the business community. He's drafted for this run because the alternative would be catastrophe. You can...pull the curtain back on how New York City is actually run and how political careers are made and lost in the city."

According to Deadline, Baldwin is planning to shoot in New York sometime in the fall of this year. A title for this show is still being determined. Cary Brokaw will produce alongside Baldwin and the two asked Well Tower to be the scriptwriter for the new series.

Baldwin, who starred in Tina Fey's "30 Rock," won two Emmys, three Golden Globes and seven SAG Awards for his performance as Jack Donaghy on the show.
