AirAsia Flight QZ8501 Search Update News: Plane Recovered, Bodies Found- No Survivors
On December 28th 2014, a horrible storm occurred as an airbus was flying over the Java Sea. Only five minutes after the plane's pilot asked permission to ascend, all communication with flight #QZ5801 was lost. Now, two days after the tragic accident, six bodies have been recovered, however, no survivors have been found as of yet.
Searchers spotted debris from the flight yesterday, as well as a shadow that was believed to be the airplane at the bottom of the Java Sea. The clues to the missing flight were found in the Karimata Strait, nearby the southwestern coast of the Borneo Island. The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) used sonar over the seabed to find the crashed jet.
The sonar revealed images of the plane, although it is unsure whether it is the entire plane or only parts of it. A floating body was shown on a media image, furthering the distress of the flight victims' loved ones. Basarnas was quick to bring the bodies to several waiting ambulances in Surabaya. So far, three male and three female victims have been identified. One of the women is wearing a flight attendant's uniform.
In addition to the bodies, a suitcase and flight #QZ5801's "black boxes" were brought in from the sea. The black boxes record flight data and cockpit voice records to help researchers discover what happened to make the plane crash. As of yet, investigators still do not know for sure what cause the jet's communication to disappear.
The CEO of the AirAsia group, Tony Fernandes, reported that his main priority right now "is the well-being of the family members of those on board."
