Agents of SHIELD Season 2 Premiere Date, Latest Spoilers: Phil Coulson's Major Struggle, Rebuilding Agency from Scratch [TRAILER VIDEO]

'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' had a pretty dark ending back in the first season when the notorious villain Hydra annihilated the agency. Now, the surviving agents, under Director Phil Coulson's supervision, must work harder to restore the public's confidence now that the team is considered a foe rather than an ally.

In the synopsis released by ABC, Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg), who died at the Battle of New York in the hands of Loki, is revived to lead a few exceptional agents from the debunked S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). Their mission to protect the innocent and save lives must stay true but it is not going to be easy especially since the organization has gone dark without the government's support.

Season 2 is a game of trust especially since the characters have faced major betrayals in the past episodes. Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), an expert pilot and martial artist, not to mention Coulson's long time friend, will play a significant role in guarding the new director while he etches wall carvings. The writings seem to stem from an alien language.

A possibility of a love triangle in Season 1 is now put to hold as Leo Fitzsimmons coma will most probably damage his cognitive functions and it is still unclear if he is going to recover. New casts to join the second season are Isabelle Hartley (Lucy Lawless), Nick Blood (Lance Hunter), and Adrianne Palicki (Mockingbird).

Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' returns to ABC on September 23, 9 PM.
