ABC's newest sitcom features the cast of "The Goldbergs" as seen through the eyes of show creator Adam Goldberg when he was a young child. This one camera sitcom on ABC premieres tonight at 9 PM EST to mediocre reviews. ThTe main concern that critics are having with "The Goldbergs" is that it will be too formulaic and predictable. And honestly, it's hard to argue with them so far. The cast list is a bit generic: We have a video nerd, a helicopter mom, a blustering dad, a know it all 16 year old boy, an unimpressed 17 year old girl, and a sex obsessed grandpa. Not the most original gang of characters so far.

The show is set in the 80s in such a way that every joke that is made in the show is somehow tied to a 1980s pop culture reference. ABC has taken this show and made it as understandable and uncomplicated as possible, probably because its time slot is squeezed right in between "Lucky 7" and "Marvels Agents of the S.H.I.E.L.D." both of which are a little bit more confusing. Think of it as a feel good, relaxing breather between the two other shows.
