Aaron Hernandez's Home Is Searched as a Part of a Police Probe Into Homicide Case
Aaron Hernandez is one of the NFL's most successful tight ends on one of the NFL's most storied franchises, playing on one of the NFL's most potent offenses. But, when the police visited his home last night, it had nothing to do with football.
State police were at his $1.3 million dollar home last night. This was in relation to a case where a body was found less than a mile away earlier that afternoon.
Police and prosecutors as the scene had no comment, but Sports Illustrated reports that an "unidentified source" claims that Hernandez was not a suspect in the case. Police had spoken with Hernandez, but nothing more.
SI also reported that the SUV involved in the case had ties to Hernandez. It was registered to "Enterprise", but no further information was given.
Last night, several officers went though the house, some remaining outside. One officer was seen carrying a box out of the house back to the station. The contents of the box, or its significance to the case, are unknown.
When asked about the incident, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said. "I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation."
This is most likely nothing. Athletes tend to be a lightning rod for any sort of suspicion and criticism, so we should all be careful to throw judgement. But, it will definitely be interesting to see how this case develops and what, if any, part Hernandez plays in the case.
