AAA Tipsy Tow 2014: How to Get a Ride Home for Free at New Year's Eve 2013 (MADD Safety Tips, VIDEO)

The AAA "Tipsy Tow" Program is being promoted to New Year's 2014 partygoers as a way to avoid potentially dangerous situations as thousands look to make their way home after celebrating New Year's Eve 2013.

The Tipsy Tow program offers free rides home to revelers who would otherwise be stranded following their parties. The initiative is only available in select regions and states, but for those in those Tipsy Tow program areas, it is a fantastic service to take advantage of.

The Program in no way endorses irresponsible drinking, but rather offers a service to those who would otherwise be put in situations where they are tempted to drive after having been drinking. The program seeks to keep those people off the roads and to keep not only those people safe, but also other road users and pedestrians from drink-related accidents.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the highest percentage of drunk drivers in fatal crashes in 2011 were between 21 to 24 years of age (32 percent). Those aged 25 to 34 (30 percent) and 35 to 44 years old (24 percent) came in next in the list.

Although a slightly higher percentage is from the lower age categories, it is clear that accidents take place across all age groups, and so those of all ages are encouraged to avoid drink driving and to use AAA's Tipsy Tow or other similar services, and to drink and act responsibly as the New Year 2014 celebrations hit across the nation.

AAA also offers "Sober Ride" programs, which are listed state by state, though many the Sober Rides program can often cost money, where as the Tipsy Tow program is free.

MADD National President Jan Withers stated in a press release, "This year, as you decide who you are going out with, where you are going, and what you are going to wear, make the most important decision "” a way to get home safely with a non-drinking designated driver."

"It is the one New Year's resolution that can save a life."

MADD has also released the following safety tips:
Designate a non-drinking driver before you go out
Save the number of a local cab company in your phone
Plan to spend the night, so you don't have to drive home
Splurge and get a car service or limousine
Call a friend, a sister, a brother, or parent. Better to be embarrassed than dead.
Do not get in a car with someone who has been drinking: DO NOT
Be a smart host. If someone leaves your home and drives under the influence, you may be liable and held responsible if that driver hurts or kills someone in a collision.
Don't provide alcohol to anyone under age 21
Be responsible. If someone you know is drinking heavily, don't allow that person to get behind the wheel. If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact the police.
