58% of Americans Are Pro Weed, Gallup Poll Shows 58% of Americans Now Support The Legalization of Marijuana [MORE DETAILS INSIDE]
Marijuana has made history today. More than half of Americans think that marijuana usage should be made legal according to a Gallup poll that was released earlier today. The Gallup poll surveyed 1,028 Americans by phone between Oct. 3 and Oct. 6.
58% of the American population is now backing the idea of legalizing marijuana, which is an 8 point increase from the previous 50% in 2011, and a 10 point increase from the poll in November 2012 following Washington and Colorado voting for legalization.
Art Swift, Gallup's managing editor said,
"With Americans' support for legalization quadrupling since 1969, and localities on the East Coast such as Portland, Maine, considering a symbolic referendum to legalize marijuana, it is clear that interest in this drug and these issues will remain elevated in the foreseeable future."
Independent voters make up most on the increase of support for legalization. Last November only 50% of independent voters were in favor of the movement, today that number is now at 62%.
Age groups up to age 64 support the move for legalization, two-thirds of those are from ages 18 to 29.
