When 50 Shades of Grey movie cast rumors started infiltrating cyberspace early 2013, Twilight heartthrob and planet Earth's closest living vampire descendant Robert Pattinson was the first actor I had in min to play the 50 Shades kinkster Christian Grey. Apparently the casting rumors have caught up to my hypothesis.

After 50 Shades author E.L. James was spotted at Pattinson's house for his film director friend Niki Jarecki's Great Gatsby-inspired birthday party on June 22, rumors of Robert Pattinson as Grey resurfaced on the Internet.

Though E.L. James and Universal have yet to confirm any of the many 50 Shades of Grey movie cast rumors, a few signs do point to Pattinson being perfect for the lead.

First, James has been on record citing Twilight author, Stephenie Meyeras a major source of inspiration for the 50 Shades of Grey books. Why not keep it in the family and use Edward Cullen [a.k.a. Pattinson] in James' own take on adolescent lust. Pattinson provides both demographics with the pale, sickly angst, borderline Byronic sensibilities perfect to play Grey in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey film adaptation.

If the rumors are true, and E.L. James is considering Pattinson for the role, who would play his opposite, Anastastia Steele? James has already admitted casting Pattinson's on and off screen lover, Kristen Stewart "would be too strange". Then who?

A laundry list of names have been associated with 50 Shades casting rumors; Emily Clarke [Game of Thrones], Amanda Seyfriend and Emma Watson to name a few. Gilmore Girls starlet Alexis Bledel is currently the Internet's fan favorite to play the role of the easily seduced Anastasia Steele.
