Over the last couple weeks rumors surrounding potential 50 Shades of Grey movie cast members have quieted down a little bit. It seems now the rumor mill is winding back up.

U.K. actor Hugh Dancy is the latest fan-favorite to play Christian Grey in the upcoming movie adaptation. Dancy currently stars as special agent Will Graham in NBC'snew crime thriller "Hannibal".

Ironically enough, Dancy's wife Claire Danes, who plays Carrie Matthison on the Showtime original show, "Homeland" is also rumored to be considered for the role of Anastasia Steele. Could the real life translate their off-screen chemistry to the raunchy relationship featured in the 50 Shades book? What if only Dancy gets the role? How Danes react to seeing her husband reenact some of the kinkier sex scenes from the novel?

Though we are still in total "rumor" phase other notable candidates to play Grey include Henry Caville [upcoming Superman flick Man of Steele], Ian Somerhalder [Vampire Diaries] and Alex Pettyfer [who reportedly filmed a scene for Gus Van Zant's test reel for Universal].

Some popular Anastasia hopefuls include Emilia Clarke [Game of Thrones bombshell], Emma Watson [Hermione...duh], and Nina Dobrev [Somerhalder's co-star in Vampire Diaries].

After covering 50 Shades of Grey movie cast rumors for some time now it seems like Somerhalder and Dobrev are the top contenders. They fit the character's age, and have already proven to share sparks both on and off screen. Plus, they already earned the loyalty of young teenage girls; the same demographic who will come and see the 50 Shades of Grey movie.
