Target and Nintendo are running a special promotion for the 3DS XL this week that will net the purchaser of the handheld a $30 gift card.

The promotion comes ahead of the release of highly anticipated game, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. According to Just Push Start, the deal is for Blue, Red, Pink, and Black models only, and is subject to change store to store.

The special promotion reportedly ends on March 1.

Nintendo also will be holding a special promotion within their own company for the 3DS XL and 2DS that will give gamers a free copy of either Pokemon X or Y if they purchase one of six specially selected games, according to reports.

The deal will run in all of March, and requires the user to purchase one of the two handhelds as well as any of the following games: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Super Mario 3D Land, Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins, Yoshi's New Island, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Mario Kart 7.

The game then has to be registered on Club Nintendo, and a free download of X or Y will be made available.

As of right now a promotional flyer for Toys "R" Us has been linked, but NintendoLife reported the deal will most likely be a nationwide offer.
