Fox Network's '24' has been on the air for eight seasons, and now it seems that the show will not return for another installment. Since the producers of the series are dissatisfied with the latest ratings and viewership, they've decided to cancel the popular Kiefer Sutherland action drama.

However, before the series fazes out for good, some of the '24' characters will return to the air for twelve episodes. The mini-series is entitled '24: Live Another Day', and will also star Jack Bauer. This time around, he'll be depicted mixed up in the thick of things as he tries to prevent a catastrophic and global disaster.

Since the original '24' series has been popular for quite some time, and only recently has it lost some viewership, the fan base for the series is disappointed about the network's decision.

However, if the mini-series receives high ratings and a large viewership for its twelve episodes, there's a chance the original '24' might be renewed for Season 9.

On a sour note, according to Epoch Times, an executive producer of '24' said, "As of now, there are no plans to continue the show next year but we remain open to possibility. We had a great time this year and would love to take another crack at it."
