’24:Live Another Day’: Renewed or Canceled? Next Season Bauer-Free?
After the explosive ending of "24: Live Another Day', fans are now calling for a follow up to the limited event television series. Certainly, viewers can't get enough of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lyn Rajskub), and all the other characters in the "24' universe.
"Live Another Day' ended with the death of Audrey, Jack's longtime love, in the hands of a Chinese government sniper. Enraged by her death, Jack kills all of Cheng's bodyguards and transmits proof of Cheng's whereabouts to President Heller and President Wei. After the authenticity is verified, Jack finds Cheng and kills him. The military advances are called off, and the threat of an impending war is prevented, but Jack finds out that Chloe is missing again. Twelve hours later, Jack surrenders himself to the Russian agents in exchange for Chloe's freedom.
There have been several statements from "24' producers with regards to the likelihood that the series will be renewed for another season. Earlier this year, executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed that there could be another "24' limited series to follow "Live Another Day', but it depends on the ratings. The series debuted on May 5 garnering 8.1 million US viewers, but the season ended with 6.47 million US viewers, which indicates that the show suffered a bit in the ratings game this time around.
Executive producer Robert Cochran also confirmed that Jack Bauer won't be killed off, leaving the door open for another season with Kiefer Sutherland as the lead. However, on June 13, producers stated that they are open to a Bauer-free "24', with the series potentially continuing with Yvonne Strahovski replacing Sutherland.
Last week, FOX CEO Peter Rice said that "24' has "many more stories to tell", and while no plans are currently in place, he intends to "sit down and talk to the creators" about Season 10.
