2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors, Predictions: Will Eric Bledsoe Remain With the Phoenix Suns?
While Eric Bledsoe is among the last remaining major 2014 NBA free agents, his 'limited' status has restricted his options, precisely speaking, there are hardly any left.
Actually, the Phoenix Suns have offered Bledsoe a four-year contract worth $48 million. This is being considered fair, keeping in mind that Toronto Raptors' star guard Kyle Lowry, who was perhaps the finest point guard in the Eastern Conference in 2013, was offered a similar deal
As there are no other offers for Bledsoe, even the Phoenix Suns are not keen to increase the offer amount. Currently, the two sides are at an impasse, and this may possibly be the worst situation for both parties.
So, what is the actual worth of Eric Bledsoe? Many believe that Bledsoe has more potential than Kyle Lowry, given the idea that he's more athletic, however, he has yet to prove his talent in a consistant manner.
Some of the factors cited by experts at the SB Nation are presented below.
Austin Elmer says, "If Bledsoe would have stayed healthy the whole year, I think he'd have earned a max deal for 5 years. But, since he only played half the year due to injury, I think he is worth $14M per year for 4 years. I would be fine with the Suns matching a max offer sheet if Bledsoe were offered one from another team."
In fact, Bledsoe wonders why he was not offered a contract for the full five years, as he was willing to stay in Phoenix. While the Suns are hesitant about his injury, if they have confidence in their training staff, then they ought to have been willing to risk the additional year.
Meanwhile, Geoff Allen says, "I think the walk away number is more than $14 million. I wouldn't mind doing a contract that averages that for 5 years, but that is front loaded, similar to the contract Channing Frye just signed with the Magic. Everyone knows the concerns with Bledsoe: he hasn't had a fully healthy season yet, and he hasn't been an upper echelon player for very long."
Bledsoe's leverage point was that the Suns actually overlooked their free agent targets believing that they would be desperate. However, there is no reason for the Suns to worry, particularly if they risk their future with Goran Dragic for it.
