'Star Trek 3' Spoilers, Rumors: Script Writer Reveals William Shatner Will Not Appear on Screen?

'Star Trek 3' co-writer/actor Simon Pegg has disclosed that William Shatner, who portrays the character of Captain James T. Kirk in the sci-fi movie series, will not be returning to reprise his role in the upcoming movie of the franchise.

Pegg, who is currently engaged in writing the script for the movie, recently revealed to the Digital Spy that Shatner is unlikely to appear in 'Star Trek 3.' According to Pegg, "William Shatner is an amazing actor and has such an incredible body of work which transcends his time as Captain Kirk."

Latin Post reports that Pegg went on to explain, "It's always about whether the stories right. It's pointless crowbarring these things in as a gimmick. That does the story and the film a disservice. I have no doubt in my mind that he could play Captain Kirk until the day he goes off to the final frontier."

During the last few months, Pegg has been touring to promote a number of projects, but, at the same time, has been making headlines for wrong reasons. In fact, last week, Pegg made headlines saying that Paramount Pictures was not very pleased with the first script of 'Star Trek 3,' as it was "too Star Trek-y."

However, Pegg later denied the comments. He clarified, "No, I didn't say that. I'm kind of getting tired of having click-bait headlines reduced to things I say to easily objectionable comments. I didn't say that. I didn't mean that. This 'Star Trek' will be as much 'Star Trek' as it can be."

Meanwhile, Shatner will appear next in 'Man Up' with Lake Bell and will also be seen in the upcoming 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.' In addition, the actor will also feature in 'Absolutely Anything' with Robin Williams and Kate Beckinsale.

'Star Trek 3,' which is slated to be directed by Justin Lin, will be released on July 8, 2016. Chris Pine will be returning to the franchise with Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. The other stars of the movie include Anton Yelchin, Sofia Boutella, Karl Urban and Idris Elba.

While J.J Abrams will not direct this film, the noted director will be producing as well as overlooking the project.
