'Percy Jackson 3' Release Date Rumors: Series Put on Back Burner for Bad Box Office Results?

Fans of the young adult movie series 'Percy Jackson' are currently feeling the sting of disappointment. Unbelievably, in a sequel-rich market, Percy Jackson: The Titan's Curse' will not be hitting the silver screen any time soon.

After the first two films struggled with fans, and in the box office, it appears 20th Century Fox executives are grimacing at giving the series another chance to strike gold in theaters.

The bombshell was revealed by Logan Lerman, the star of the 'Percy Jackson' series in a interview with MTV. "It's not happening," he said, "It's been a great experience for me. It's opened up a lot of doors for me, but I don't think its happening."

This most likely means that while the series has not been officially shelved by the studio, the main contributors to the project have been informed about its future.

However, 'Percy Jackson' star Alexandra Daddario is not quite convinced that the series is dead, but is rather enthusiastic about its return. In an interview with the Associated Press she said, "I haven't heard anything about [a third movie]. There could definitely be one, but I would be surprised. I would love to make one if they'd want me to."

The studio is likely to cite poor box office results as the reason for shelving the series.

Percy's fans might be temporarily disappointed, but with studios scrambling for "sure thing" properties, it seems likely we'll see a new incarnation of Percy Jackson, and his friends in the future.

In the meantime, the book series remains popular, and is championed by Lerman himself, who is a fan of the young adult books by Rick Riordan.
