LG Flip Phone Rumors: Latest Leaks Hint LG is Working on New Flip Style Smartphone

Even as the South Korean tech titan LG Electronics is reported to be working on the launch of its latest flagship smartphone the LG G4, which is expected to be a high-end device, there are reports that the company is simultaneously working on other projects, including a new smart flip phone.

Christian Today reports that @upleaks recently revealed that in addition to its upcoming flagship offering, the South Korean company may be preparing to launch a flip smartphone too.

Interestingly enough, LG was rumored to be working on a flip phone on earlier occasion too. In 2008, the company introduced the LG Ice Cream, which came with a basic operating system and average specifications, which included a 2.2-inch screen rendering a 240 x 320 pixel display together with a 3.15-megapixel rear camera. This flip phone was mainly meant for the Chinese market.

In September last year, LG introduced another flip phone, which was dubbed the LG Wine Smart, which came with an app called Kakao - an unusual multi-platform text messaging app. This device sported a 3.5-inch screen, rendering a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. Moreover, the Wine Smart was powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and came with an 8-megapixel rear as well as a VGA front camera. This flip phone was sported an LTE modem, 1 GB of RAM, a 1,700 mAh battery in addition to a 4 GB internal memory, which is expandable to 32 GB through a microSD slot.

If reports regarding LG working on a new smart flip phone are true, then it is expected to come with improved hardware specifications. Nevertheless, it is also expected that the purported flip phone will be meant for the Chinese market, as currently there is not demand of a flip phone in the U.S. market.

The leaks notwithstanding, LG Electronics has yet to confirm them.
