Honda Civic Sedan Specs, News: 2016 Honda Civic Sedan Comes With Sleeker Lines, More Efficient Turbo Engine

Honda's 10th-generation Civic compact was unveiled at an L.A. event recently, and it was as well-received as expected. The 2016 Honda Civic sedan has kept many styling elements that the two-door concept featured, like a bolder grille, and sleeker roofline.

The coupe and five-door hatchback body styles will come later.

Standard LED daytime running lights and C-shaped taillights, as well as optional LED headlights jazz the design up.

The new streamlined body of the sedan is2 inches wider and 1 inch lower than the 2015 model, and it rides on a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase.

Coupled with new full under body covers, this improves aerodynamic efficiency by 12%m Honda reported.

There will be more high-strength steel in the new Civic, so that although it will be larger, the bare unibody will be 68 pounds lighter than previous models. This will boost fuel efficiency.

Fuel-economy figures weren't disclosed, but Honda aims for an EPA highway rating "in excess of 40 mpg."

The 2016 Honda Civic gets two all-new engine options with base models using a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that utilizes Honda's i-VTEC variable valve timing system.

Honda claims this 2.0-liter is the most powerful base engine available.

It will have either six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmissions, and higher-level models will receive a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that includes direct injection.

This will be the first time a turbocharged engine has been available in a U.S. Civic, aside from the sporty Si model, which will become available again soon, together with the heavier duty Civic Type-R.

In terms of new technology, the 2016 Civic will feature a new infotainment system with a 7.0-9-inch touchscreen.

Other features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which means drivers can plug into their smartphones with the car's inbuilt touch and voice controls.

The Honda Sensing suite of electronic driver aids is another enviable feature- it helps the driver with its Collision Mitigating Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.

Greensburg, Indiana, and Alliston, Ontario, Canada will build the North American-market sedans and the engines will be built in Anna, Ohio.

The automatic transmissions will be provided by Russells Point, Ohio, and Celaya, Mexico.

The 2016 Honda Civic sedan debuts in the U.S. in the fall.
