‘Homeland’ Season 4 Premiere Date Spoilers: Carrie’s Big News

Fans should prepare for some big changes to 'Homeland' when it returns for Season 4, especially when considering Carrie.

According to sources, Carrie will have a baby in Season 4. With her father and Brody dead, she would have to raise the child by herself as she struggles to commit to her new job as the station chief in Istanbul.

Executive producer Alex Gansa told TV Guide, "The show is about the private and public costs of keeping America safe. That's the overreaching theme of the season," as he refers to Carrie's pregnancy.

There are also new characters to watch out for in the new season, including Suraj Shawma from 'Life of Pi', who will play a Pakistani med student who was recruited by Carrie. Laila Robbins, 'In Treatment' star, will also be introduced as the U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan. Lastly, the Pakistan station chief will be played by Corey Stoll from the 'House of Cards'.

Beyond that, Gansa also revealed that Carrie still mourns for Brody, "[Carrie's] got a period of grieving to do in coming to terms with what happened at the end of last season, and clearly that's represented and identified by the child that she had," he said. "The baby exists as a marker for her emotionally," said Gansa.

Howard Gordon, show creator, also confirmed that the next season will feature Carrie as the focus of their story, "Fortunately Carrie is still a very robust character, (as are fellow CIA spies) Saul and Quinn. And there are tertiary characters who are now stepping more to the fore," said Gordon.

"She is a person who is trying to stop terrorists doing bad things ... but it is more complicated than that. I would say that the bugaboos in 'Homeland' this year have to do as much with the American bureaucracy as with the ostensible enemy," he added.

'Homeland' Season 4 premieres Oct. 5 on Showtime.
