'High School Musical 4' Cast News: Original Lead Stars Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron Likely Won't Reprise Roles

While fans got excited when Disney confirmed that "High School Musical 4" was really happening, some were disappointed to know that its lead stars would no longer be there to reprise their roles.

Recently, Ashely Tisdale has already confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Sharpay Evans. Also, some reports claim that Vanessa Hudgens still holds a grudge towards Zac Efron, making it somewhat difficult for her to work with him on set for the new project.

In June, Tisdale confirmed that she would not make any appearance in the upcoming installment of "High School Musical 4." The actress said appearing in the first three installments of the film was more than enough for her, and that she would like to focus on her new career as a designer.

However, the actress said that moving on with her profession doesn't mean that she will no longer bring her character with her. In fact, she shared that playing Sharpay was one of her greatest experiences as an actress, and that the character is actually her breathing alter-ego.

Meanwhile, some speculate that the reason Efron has not confirmed his return to the film is that he isn't ready yet to see his co-star and ex-girlfriend Hudgens. However, Efron said in a recent interview that the reason he could not confirm is that he already had prior commitments. According to reports, the actor has reconnected with Hudgens since he broke up with Sami Miro.

"High School Musical 4" is expected to hit theaters in early 2017.
