'Ghostbusters 3' Reboot Movie Spoilers, Cast News: All-Female Team Takes on Different Storyline

The upcoming reboot for Ghostbusters is said to have an all-female cast with Kristin Wiig (Despicable Me 2), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat), and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live). Film director Paul Feig was tapped for the reboot of the upcoming film which is set to release on July 22, 2016.

Paul Feig wanted to make it clear when the movie was being pitched that this will be a fresh reboot and not a sequel to the 1989 movie. Feig continued that with the help of his screenwriter, they wanted to create the new story in the same light as comedy but a bit scarier.

Feig had, at first, dealt with many setbacks regarding the third Ghostbusters installment including the casting. The supposed Ghostbuster 3 film had been underway but Bill Murray had refused to sign another contract for the franchise while Harold Ramis passed away in 2014. With the change of casts for poltergeist-hunters, it was all natural to ask why Murray had been elusive. Despite that, Murray was the had highly recommended Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy for the upcoming movie.

Wiig was reported on the Rolling Stone to have accepted the role wholeheartedly saying, "I will do whatever Bill Murray tells me to do."

Feig, who has been a huge fan of sci-fi flicks, was very open to the idea. At first, he wasn't sure about making the movie until he thought about it on a different perspective.

"The minute I thought, wait, if I put all women in it, I know how to do that movie. If I can reboot it, put it in a world where [a ghost invasion] hasn't happened yet, then I have a ton of energy for it," he said according to Christian Post.

Dan Arkroyd, who played Raymond Stantz in Ghost Busters, couldn't agree more with this idea of female empowerment. "I can tell you, as the originator, I'm very happy what [Feig's] done. It's very tasteful. And it needed a reworking. The thing needed a new engine. You know? It needed new exhaust. It needed new steering. And this is what we're getting," the 62-year-old Canadian actor mentioned to Christian Post.
