'Avatar 2' Movie Release Date: 'Return to Pandora' to Hit Theaters in December 2016

Five years have passed since the release of the first 'Avatar' movie and fans have been eagerly waiting for the promised sequel. However, the wait seems to be drawing to an end as Franchise Herald suggests that the 'Avatar 2: Return to Pandora' trailer is likely to be released sometime at the end of 2015.

While the sequel is slated for December 2016 release, the speculation made by Franchise Herald is founded on director James Cameron's recent statement that writers are currently working on the scripts of the next three sequels and they will be completed soon.

Christian Today reports that during a recent Reddit Q&A session, Cameron disclosed, "They're essentially all in pre-production now because we are designing creatures, settings and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks."

Since Cameron made this statement some two months back, it is expected that by now the scripts are nearly completed and filming is likely to commence shortly. Crossmap reports that filming for 'Avatar 2: Return to Pandora' will commence in New Zealand in December 2014.

According to latest reports Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be back in 'Avatar 2: Return to Pandora' to reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, respectively. Even Sigourney Weaver will be seen Dr. Grace Augustine.

Earlier, in an interview, Saldana expressed her delight over the fact that that her character Neytiri will be included in 'Avatar 2: Return to Pandora', considering the fact that many were of the view that Neytiri has already died. Saldana revealed that the fans will see a transformed Neytiri in the sequel.

Referring to the storyline of the sequel, Crossmap reports that the director admitted that they will be exploring marine life in the upcoming movie. Cameron said, "We're doing Avatar films now, so we're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora."
