‘American Horror Story’ Season 5 Cast News, Spoilers: Jessica Lange Will Not Star in New Series Installment?

Confirming that 'American Horror Story' will be returning to FX Networks for Season 5 sometime around October, the channel's CEO John Landgraf said that the upcoming season will be "very different' from the last four seasons.

According to IB Times, although Landgraf did not reveal the cast of the 'American Horror Story' Season 5, it is not certain if 'Freak Show' was the last season for Jessica Lange. However, show co-creator Ryan Murphy recently posted a puzzling tweet indicating that she may not feature in 'American Horror Story' Season 5. Murphy tweeted, "Thank you Jessica...for everything. Always."

Meanwhile, before the premiere of Season 4, Lange had said that she will quit the show after 'Freak Show.' In fact, Huffington Post quoted the veteran actress as saying, "I'm going to do the next season [Season 4] of this and hopefully a play and then maybe one or two movies and then I think -- I feel like maybe then it's time to start something brand new in life."

Talking to TV Line, Landgraf, however, remarked that he does not have any clue on whether or not Lange will be returning in Season 5. According to FX Network's boss, he is aware of the characters, tone as well as the time, but he does not know about the cast. He said Murphy was free to decide on the cast and expressed hope that in Season 5 the show will be set in contemporary time period. Landgraf further said that fans can expect be "large reinvention" between Book 4 and Book 5.

Meanwhile, apart from Lange, nearly all the other cast members of the 'Freak Show' have already expressed their willingness to do another season of the series. They include Lily Rabe, Michael Chiklis, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett. On the other hand, Sarah Paulson has signed on to star in Murphy's new show titled 'American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.'

Speculations are circulating online that 'American Horror Story' Season 5 will focus on Operation Top Hat, a "local field exercise" undertaken by the United States Army Chemical Corps in 1953.
