If the latest rumors are to be believed, Xiaomi may be gearing up to unveil a "lightweight" compact camera targeted at the GoPro market at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain, on March 2. The rumors are fueled by teasers posted by the Chinese tech manufacturer on its official page on the Weibo social network.

Interestingly, all the teasers are centered on a matchbox. The first teaser shows a closed matchbox, while another teaser demonstrates an open matchbox packed for travel and containing snorkeling gear, suggesting that the purported device may also be water-resistant. There is a third teaser showing skiers racing down a snow slant, contained in an open matchbox.

According to IB Times, the teaser message, as translated from Mandarin by Google Translate, reads, "Win a mysterious new Rapid Responder: you always wanted to go there, where no one visited it? You want to change the angle, record beautiful moments? You have seen breathtaking beauty, want to share with a friend? You have to challenge the limits of courage? At 10:00 on March 2, New 'lightweight' (will be) announced."

In addition to the three teasers mentioned above, the Chinese manufacturer also posted two more images showing what seems like eagles flying over blue mountains in an open matchbox and a kitten snuggles on a cushion inside another open match box.

China's largest smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has been rated as most valuable privately held tech company worldwide following a recent round of fundraising, which raised the company's worth to $45 billion.

Already Xiaomi has made substantial investments in start-ups in China as well as the Silicon Valley, with a view to develop an ecosystem of smart devices - ranging from air purifiers to wearables - in addition to Internet-based software services like streaming video to position the company's smartphones at the center of all this.

Last, but not the least important - what appears to be another link within the teasers takes the viewer to a static page on Xiaomi's official website with an image of a racetrack, as it would appear to be from just beside a thoroughbred galloping on it. According to reports, all these give credibility to the speculations that Xiaomi is working on a mystery product, which will possibly be a sports/action camera similar to that of GoPro.
