Xbox One Sales News & Update: Microsoft's Console Tops August List Due To Xbox One S?

Microsoft's Xbox One topped Sony's PlayStation 4 when it came to sales in the month of August.

As per Game Rant, the NPD Group announced the top selling gaming consoles for August, adding that the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4. According to the publication, it happened for the second month in a row, and the Xbox's position has gotten even better compared to how it beat Sony's console in July.

According to Games Industry, Xbox One's sales performance reflects a "reversal" of Microsoft's position in the past few years. As per the publication, the tech giant previously touted Xbox Live engagement as the preferred criterion of business health versus the impact of its unit sales. It is added that the total global gaming hours on the Xbox One had increased by 42 percent every year in August.

Nintendo's handheld 3DS console topped the Xbox One in July, mainly due to the rise and hype of the studio's "Pokémon GO." As for Xbox One, it bested the PlayStation 4 reportedly because of the launch of the Xbox One S. The gaming console can be purchased beginning at $299.99, along with superior performance over the Xbox One as contributing factors.

Another factor affecting the high sales of the Xbox One is the Xbox One S's specifications. The console has the power to display Blu-ray in 4K resolution, among other things, something that the PlayStation 4 Pro will not have.

In a statement, Microsoft said that the Xbox One S was currently the only console available for the holidays with built-in UHD 4K Blu-ray, 4K video streaming, and HDR for video and gaming.
