‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Cast Spoilers: Director Bryan Singer Reveals Details About New Character

It has been confirmed that "X-Men: Days of Future Past' director Bryan Singer is staying on to direct its sequel, "X-Men: Apocalypse'. The director recently sat down with Empire to set the record straight about a couple of issues regarding the upcoming film. As early as May, rumors have been flying about the possibility that the character, Apocalypse, is an alien.

"People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from," said Singer.

In the X-men comic books, Apocalypse hails from ancient Egypt and is the first ever mutant. He is said to be immortal and possesses a frightening amount of power, including the ability to fly and teleport, superhuman strength, virtual invulnerability to harm, and total control of his body in a molecular level that enables him to transform himself at will. He will also have other powers, and will certainly be a formidable foe or ally to the X-men.

Work on 'X-Men: Apocalypse' has begun, and Singer also revealed that Simon Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris will be penning the script with him.

The script indicates that the opening scene will be set in Egypt and involve thousands of people in a "sprawling battle". It also confirms that Apocalypse will be working with four mutants referred to as "the four horseman."

Apocalypse was glimpsed in the after-credits scene in "Days of Future Past'. The film will be set 10 years after the last scene of Days, and include some of the original X-men such as Cyclops. Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will be back to reprise their roles as Mystique, Beast, Charles Xavier and Magneto. Channing Tatum is rumored to take on the role of Gambit, while Brendan Pedder is rumored to play Apocalypse.

"X-Men: Apocalypse' will premiere on May 27, 2016.
