'Wonder Woman' News: Chris Pine Confirmed As Male Lead Role

Bringing clarity to all the rumors of the actor portraying Hal Jordan in DC/Warner Bros. 'Green Lantern Corps' movie is The Wrap that confirms Chris Pine's casting in 'Wonder Woman.'

Pine is set to play Steve Trevor, Diana Prince's love interest, meaning hill star opposite Gal Gadot. He was rumored to be in contention for the role months ago, however it was shortly dismissed when speculation came he would play the Green Lantern.

"There had been speculation that Pine was up for a role in WB's upcoming "Green Lantern Corps" and that the "Wonder Woman" rumors were just a smokescreen, but that popular fanboy theory proved unfounded," writes The Wrap.

In the comics, Steve Trevor is portrayed as a former US soldier, however the report states that there will "plenty of action to keep him busy."

"In the comics, Steve Trevor is a WWII fighter pilot who crashes on Paradise Island, where the Amazonian princess Diana nurses him back to health and falls in love with him. She eventually returns with him to the outside world, where she adopts the moniker of Diana Prince and becomes Trevor's co-worker, as well as the superhero Wonder Woman. Pine (whose Gaston-esque prince was the best part of Into the Woods) seems like a great fit for the part, and it'll be cool to see how he interacts with Gal Gadot's lead character," writes Geek Tyrant.

'Wonder Woman' is set to be directed by Patty Jenkins and penned by Jason Fuchs. It'll premiere in theaters on June 23, 2017, but the character will make her debut appearance in 'Batman V Superman.'
