Police officers in Philadelphia arrested a homeless man Friday, who is known for dressing up as Jesus. The once drug addict says he never charged people for pictures and only dresses as Jesus as a testimony to his Christian faith, but was still arrested for "disorderly conduct."

According to Counter Current News Michael Grant, the homeless man arrested was allowed to accept donations. He was arrested because he decided to give tourists something for their donations, a picture with him.

Grant reportedly made officers aware that he was not charging for photos, but did accept donations.

Grant said he dresses like Jesus because it helped him overcome his once drug addition. He said he does not consider himself to be "Jesus" however "tries to live like Christ."

"I considered myself completely healed and cured when I surrendered my heart to Jesus Christ," Grant said in an interview with the news.

Hundreds started to tweet using the hashtag #FreePhillyJesus. The homeless man actually tweeted about the incident after being released from police custody himself.

"Keep your head up man. The entire Internet is rooting for you. ?#FreePhillyJesus," one tweeted.

Grant let his supporters know that he had been charged with the overly-general charge of "disorderly conduct" and "failure to disperse charges."

"I'm going to fight this," Grant declared.

To help Grant fight the charges people can contact the Philadelphia Police Department. To reach the Police Commissioner's Office, email police.commissioner@phila.gov or call 215.686.3280.
