Viewers of the supernatural television drama "The Vampire Diaries" have seen vampires Caroline and Stefan develop a close bond through the show. In Season 2, they saw Stefan helping Caroline as she began her life as a vampire.

More recently, in Season 5, Caroline returned the favor by saving Stefan from drowning. They have been getting ever closer to each other and in Season 5 Episode 2 titled "Rescue Me" we saw the two vampires talking while lying beside each other revealing their close emotional bond.

However, in an interview with TV Guide Julie Plec, TVD executive director, teased that their relation may undergo some changes in Season 6, which could shock some fans.

According to the plot spoilers, it will not be so clear and easy for her to help Stefan any longer. Plec said, "It's really a character-defining journey for Stefan and it'll change him quite a lot. At what point does he decide to give up or keep searching for answers?"

In another interview with The Entertainment Weekly, Plec disclosed that the different characters in Season 6 of the show will be dealing with Damon and Bonnie (who is now gone forever). She said, "Some are in denial, some are still searching for answers."

Plec also teased that the new season will begin by focusing on the reactions of all the characters to Damon and Bonnie's death. While it is now certain that Damon and Bonnie will still be seen in Season 6, Plec did not provide any details regarding their appearance and how they will be worked into the plot line.

All that Plec has revealed is that there are numerous ways to bring back Damon and Bonnie, but how they will do so remains a mystery at this point.

The Season 6 of "The Vampire Diaries" is likely to have an October 2014 premiere on The CW Network.
