USA Basketball 2015 News: Invites Sent Out to Seven New Players

USA Basketball recently handed out a list of invites to new players for an upcoming minicamp in Las Vegas, ESPN's Marc Stein reports. According to the report, seven new players will be added to the 34 current members of the 2014-16 USA Basketball Men's National Team Roster.

The list of new invitees include Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls, Mike Conley from the Memphis Grizzlies, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes of the world champion Golden State Warriors, Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo from the Orlando Magic and Trey Burke from the Utah Jazz.

The minicamp is scheduled for Aug. 11-13 in UNLV.

According to USAB managing director Jerry Colangelo, the minicamp will serve as more of a "reunion" for the players that have previously worked under Colangelo and Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski.

But while the minicamp will not be the full-scale practice that Team USA normally holds in preparation for major competitions, Colangelo states that attendance at the three-day event is mandatory for players who wish to earn a spot on the 12-man roster that would be competing in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

"Basically, we're looking for a time of reflection, celebration and being respectful of what we've accomplished with USA Basketball over the last decade," Colangelo said. "And then to build on that, we want to get a read to see who's committed for next year."

"I think it's important for those who want to continue with us and be under consideration for '16 to be with us in Las Vegas for a couple of days. It's going to be low key. Light workouts, no contact and then play an all-star game. No concern about competitiveness. We're not evaluating anyone."

"It's going to be a very difficult team to pick and get down to 12. So wee need to have them there because we need to find out where we are with everyone."
