UFC Fight Night Manila News, Preview: Urijah Faber Takes on Frankie Edgar in Upcoming MMA Matchup

The UFC has finally made its way to the Philippines, and is set to have their first ever show in the country with UFC Fight Night Manila. The main event features two former champions who are looking to extend their streak for another possible title shot as Urijah Faber takes on Frankie Edgar.

As noted by UFC and WEC veteran Dan Downes, the former UFC Lightweight champion has been undefeated since his last title shot, emerging victorious over Charles Oliviera, BJ Penn, and Cub Swanson"”an impressive string of wins proving that he is still among the world's elite. Faber is also unbeaten since last fighting for a title, taking wins over Alex Caceres and Francisco Rivera.

It should be an interesting battle wherever the fight goes as both are well versed on the feet and on the ground. Faber should look to body up on Edgar and push him against the cage, while the New Jersey native should look to utilize his renowned footwork to find angles and holes against Faber's defense.

Manila will also get to see Gegard Mousasi go up against Costas Philippou. This fight could end at any moment, with both fighters coming off impressive knockout wins. Mousasi needed just 70 seconds to take out Dan Henderson back in January, while Philippou also had a first round knockout against Lorenz Larkin last May. Mousasi has alternated wins and losses in his last four trips to the Octagon, but Downe opines he should come out on top against Phiippou.

Mark Munoz comes home to fight in front of his people against Luke Barnatt. After losing four of his last five fights, Munoz has decided to have his swan song in his native country. He will, however be facing a much taller 6'6" Barnatt who is also looking to snap out a two-fight losing streak. Expect the crowd to rock the Mall of Asia Arena for Munoz, but it might not be enough at this stage of the "Filipino Wrecking Machine's" career.

Other fights in the main card include Hyun Gyu Lim vs. Neil Magny, Philippe Nover vs. Yui Chul Nam, and Mark Eddiva vs. Levan Makashvili. UFC Fight Night airs live on FOX Sports 1. The action kicks off Saturday at 10:00 am ET.
