A heartfelt letter written by U2 front man Bono to Christian evangelist Billy Graham was recently released online.

The 54-year-old Irish rock legend wrote the poem 12 years ago when he visited Graham's home in Montreat, North Carolina.

The transcript of the letter was recently released on Billy Graham's official website earlier this month.

The Christian vocalist has been very outspoken about his strong Christian faith in several interviews including a discussion where he expressed his viewpoints regarding Jesus and His divine nature.

"[Who is Christ?] is a defining question for a Christian...you're not let off easily by saying a great thinker or philosopher...he went around saying he was the Messiah...he was crucified...because he said he was the son of God. He either was the son of God...or nuts... [and] I find it hard to accept that millions of lives... have felt their lives touched and inspired by some nut. I don't believe it," said Bono to RTE last year.

U2 was originally formed by Bono (whose real name is Paul David Hewson), The Edge (real name, David Evans), Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. back in 1976.

On a side note, Graham's 'Heaven' movie will be released on the world renowned televangelist's 96th birthday, November 7, 2014.

Bono wrote the following poem to Billy Graham and his entire family:

"The journey from Father to friend

is all paternal loves end

It was sung in my teenage ears

In the voice of a preacher

loudly soft on my tears

I would never forget this

Melody line

Or its lyric voice that gave my life

A Rhyme

a meaning that wasn't there before

a child born in dung and straw

wish the Father's love and desire to explain

how we might get on with each other again...

To the Rev Billy Graham (that preacher)

Ruth and all the Graham family

From Bono (March 11 2002)

With much love and respect"
