Twisted Season 2 Renewal News: Fans Petition to Renew ABC Family Series, Low Ratings Hurt Chances

Fans are clamoring for another season of Twisted amidst ABC Family's prolonged silence concerning the show's future.

Many of the show's fans came together to start campaigning for a new season, with some even taking to the website, Change.org, to petition for a Twisted season two, and to date, more than 7,000 supporters have signed the petition.

Other fans took to social media to start the Renew Twisted campaign.

One of the supporters, who identified herself as Jenay, said the show delves into the issues that matter right now.

"'Twisted' is an amazing show that covers several issues many teens face today - bullying, being gay, and mental illnesses, as well as three best friends renewing their friendship," Jenay told Pop Dust.

Twisted tells the story of 17-year-old Danny Desai, played by Avan Jogia, who spent five years in juvenile detention after he was charged with killing his aunt. Six years later, Desai tries to resume his life in his hometown in New York, but then a classmate is killed and the teen becomes a primary suspect.

Aside from Jogia, the show also stars Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury and Denise Richards, among others.

The mystery series started without a full season, but it was picked up in July 2013 for a 20-episode contract after it attracted a number of fans. The first season ended in April, and fans are left with a brutal cliff-hanger - both in the story and on the show's future.

Showrunner Chuck Pratt Jr. was previously quoted as saying that he remains hopeful, despite the network's silence, "It's totally up to ABC Family to say 'Do a cliffhanger' or 'Don't do a cliffhanger,'" Pratt said, according to The Epoch Times, "Nobody told us to put on the breaks, or wrap it up, so there's always a chance we'll come back."

However, the show's lackluster ratings may not help the producers in their bid to secure the show's future. The show ended its run with an average of 1.29 million viewers tuned in, according to TVSeriesFinale.

Ravenswood, the spinoff of ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars, ended with the same ratings, which led to its cancellation, according to Bustle.
