'True Detective' Season 3 News, Rumors: Nic Pizzolato Leads HBO TV Series; ‘Pacific Rim’ Actor Idris Elba To Join?

In line with the upcoming season 3 of HBO's hit television series "True Detective," it is revealed that the show is set to be spearheaded by writer-director Nic Pizzolatto. Also, "Pacific Rim" actor Idris Elba has also been linked with the show's forthcoming installment.

HBO has contracted Pizzolato until 2018, which suggests that the "True Detective" creator is set to handle the show's third season, Variety has learned. As per the publication, Pizzolato is eyed for several new projects, such as "True Detective" installments in the future.

In line with Pizzolato handling "True Detective" season 3, the upcoming season is believed to undergo a different path, as opposed to its previous two installments.

Sources told the publication that the creator has been presented with several choices, which cover him working alongside a team of writers, introducing a new showrunner, and him handling the project alone. As per the sources, Pizzolato is set to be an executive producer for the HBO series.

In other news, "Pacific Rim" star Elba ignited speculations about his involvement in "True Detective" season 3. In his interview with Huffpost Entertainment about his show "Beasts of No Nation," where he worked along with director Cary Fukunaga, he said that he liked the way the interviewer was thinking about his possible attachment in "True Detective" season 3.

On Apr. 13, "X-Men: Apocalypse" actress Olivia Munn also took to her official Instagram account a photo of her together with her co-stars in the series. In caption, she wrote "True Detective season 3 #officexmasparty." While it is indicative the the actress is set to play a role in the series, rumors say that she is working on another show.

The release date for "True Detective" season 3 is yet to be revealed.
