'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 Spoilers: New Season Protagonist Revealed; Coming Either This Fall Or March 2017?

New details on the storyline and release date of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 have surfaced.

Touka Kirishima is set to be the main protagonist of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3, Movie News Guide has reported. The website reports it was Madhouse Entertainment's preference to have Kirishima as the lead character over the series' previous one, Ken Kaneki.

Kirishina, the new main character, is set to be the focus of the story, together with her school. The publication further revealed that Kirishna goes to To-Oh University, which is believed to be the manga and anime iteration of Japan's Toho University in real life.

Madhouse is already familiar with To-Oh University, since the animation studio has worked on the said school previously, according to Christian Times. The website reports that the school is linked with the anime titled "Death Note," which follows high school student Light Yagami, who unveils a supernatural notebook from a Shinigami named Ryuk. It is revealed that Ryuk grants the user the power to killer anyone whose name and face he knows.

Set in an alternate world, "Tokyo Ghoul" follows individuals who can only thrive by consuming human flesh. They live among normal humans in society, concealing their real nature and motives to prevent themselves from being caught by the authorities. Along with enhanced senses, these beings also have regenerative capabilities, proving that they are many times stronger than humans.

Regarding release date, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is set to be released either in the fall of 2016 or in March 2017. It follows season 2, which was released on Jan. 8, 2015 and season 1, which aired in July 2014.
