Tiger Woods Latest News: Pulls Out of Ryder Cup 2014, Golfer Drops Competition Due to Injury

One of the greatest golfers of this generation will unfortunately have to take a break from the sport in order to completely heal from his back pains. Tiger Woods recently announced that he will be unable to play in the upcoming Ryder Cup which is scheduled to happen on September 23 in Gleneagles, Scotland.

The 14-time major winner, Woods, admitted that he pulled out of the competition since he felt like he wouldn't be able to perform, "Physically, I couldn't do it. I wouldn't be ready and not being able to be there for my team-mates, the captain, assistant captain and everyone that's involved in the event, I just wouldn't be ready and I just couldn't help the team." Woods told Sky Sports News.

The golfer announced that he will take some time off to finally resolve and know the root cause of his persistent back problems, "Obviously this year was frustrating in that I didn't really feel that I gave myself much of a chance. I first had that pain in my back and it would go away, and then it would come back, go away, come back, until eventually it never went away. It got fixed, but I took that fall at the [WGC-Bridgestone Invitational] and I hadn't done any agility training yet so my hip got misaligned and everything went into spasm again." Woods continued.

According to Woods, he will take the rest of the year off, until December, and hopefully be ready to come back in 2015, "I've got to be physically fit when I come back so I'll be explosive again and stable," he said.

It is reported that Woods, just last month, injured himself in a way he hadn't done before. According to reports, Woods' sacrum - a bone located at the bottom of the spine - shifted out of position when he jumped into a fairway bunker on the second hole during at the Valhalla. He struggled for six more holes then hit his tee shot on No. 9 and called for a cart to take him off the course.
